The peer mentor program was designed to support individuals beginning their forensic science journeys' at SJSU.

 

Freshman and transfer students will gain insight from someone who was in their shoes not too long ago, on how to successfully maneuver through the FS program, take advantage of research and scholarship opportunities, while simultaneously preparing for life after college.

 

Upper classman will gain the leadership and communication skills necessary for a forensic scientist.

 

How it Works:

Individuals will be matched based on their forensic sub-discipline interests.

For example, someone looking to pursue a career in death investigations will be matched with someone holding the same aspirations.

 

We’ll notify the mentor who they’ve been matched with.

The mentee and mentor gets to attend exclusive events like resume workshops, guest speakers, and LinkedIn workshops. 

 

There are also fun bonding activities the mentor and mentee can do together. However, what you gain from this relationship lies on the mentorship pair. The goal is to bring students together and and make students feel safe asking questions and sharing their progress.

 

As a mentor, YOU get to share what you’ve learned along the way, and what you wish you had known as a new student. Your mentee trusts and wants to learn from you. 

 

Our hope is that both parties will walk away from this program feeling like they have someone in their corner.
